Cosmetic Procedures at the Aesthetic Surgery Center

At the Aesthetic Surgery Center, Inc., Dr. John Williams expertly performs a wide array of cosmetic surgical procedures. Dr. Williams knows that the results of plastic surgery should match the patient’s original vision as closely as possible, which is why he spends as much time as is necessary to understand each patient’s goals and desires. For procedures that require anesthesia, Dr. Williams works in conjunction with board-certified anesthesiologists.

Dr. John V. Williams is the only plastic surgeon in Louisiana to use Hivamat Electrostatic Massage Therapy in his practice.

Hivamat Electrostatic Massage Therapy uses pulsed electrostatic energy to create a field between the therapist's hands and the affected area. The result is resonant oscillation that penetrates the deep tissue and stimulates the body's natural recovery process. With minimal pressure, the therapist can penetrate the core of the affected area. Advantages of undergoing therapy with the Hivamat System include:

Hivamat Electrostatic Massage Therapy is used by the NFL to reduce player downtime. This therapy decreases our patients' recovery time by promoting the healing process and increasing the body's natural rate of recovery.

Breast Procedures

Breast Augmentation

Full, shapely breasts can greatly improve a woman’s sense of well-being and confidence. Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure designed to enhance both the size and contour of a woman’s breasts. The results are a more proportionate bustline that lends to an overall enhanced body shape.

The advantages and disadvantages of each approach to breast augmentation will be discussed with you at the time of your personal consultation, ensuring your best results will be achieved.

After making an incision, Dr. Williams will place the implant underneath the chest-wall muscle. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist. The operation usually takes between one to two hours to complete.

During the recovery process, patients may experience soreness, sensitivity, and swelling.

Breast Lift or Mastopexy

Factors such as pregnancy, nursing, and weight loss can cause breast tissue to lose its volume and the skin and soft tissue to lose its elasticity. Breast lift is a safe and effective method to lift and elevate the breast tissue and nipples. The results will give a more youthful appearance to the breasts.

If you would like to learn more about how breast lift surgery can help you attain the appearance you desire, please contact our office in Baton Rouge today.

Breast Reconstruction

Dr. Williams is experienced in the latest reconstruction techniques. There are many options available for reconstruction, and Dr. Williams will thoroughly explain every option available. The most frequently performed technique combines skin expansion with the subsequent insertion of an implant. Breast reconstruction is done in conjunction with the surgeon treating your breast cancer.

The decision to undergo breast reconstruction surgery comes at a difficult time in a woman’s life. Dr. Williams will take the time necessary to ensure that his patients fully understand their options. At the Aesthetic Surgery Center, we place the comfort of our patients above all else.

Breast Reduction

Women with very large breasts are often subject to general discomfort including neck and back pain, potential breathing problems, bra strap pain, and infections. Oversized breasts may cause problems with work and daily activities. Breast reduction is a procedure intended to reduce the size and weight of the breasts while reshaping them to a natural curvature. Breast reduction is usually performed using the interior pedicle technique.

Body Procedures

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Abdominoplasty, also known as tummy tuck surgery, is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the lower abdominal region. The process not only removes excess tissue but also tightens the abdominal muscles, resulting in a flatter, more toned abdomen.

The procedure begins with an incision on the lower front of the abdomen, usually from hip to hip and just above the pubic area. A second incision is made to free the navel from surrounding tissue.

Once incisions have been made, the skin is separated from the abdominal muscles and the muscles are tightened, dramatically reducing and flattening the waistline. Excess skin and fatty tissue are also removed, and the initial incision is closed.

Liposuction

For some patients, fat pockets in certain areas of the body are simply unresponsive to even the most stringent diets and workout routines. Most often, patients are unhappy with excess fat on and around the buttocks, legs, hips, stomach, and arms. Liposuction is a surgical procedure effective in sculpting and refining these areas.

Dr. Williams is one of the only plastic surgeons in Baton Rouge who performs Pulsed Ultrasound Liposuction (PAL), the latest, most advanced technique available.

When performing PAL, Dr. Williams utilizes a special cannula, a thin suction tube, which produces ultrasonic energy. As the cannula passes through the fatty tissue, the ultrasonic energy breaks down and liquefies the tissue. This liquefied fat is then easily suctioned without damage to the surrounding tissue.

PAL has several advantages over other forms of liposuction:

Post-Bariatric Body Lift

Following bariatric surgery, many patients experience dramatic, rapid weight loss. Unfortunately, once the weight is gone, patients are often left with areas of excess skin on various parts of their bodies. Post-bariatric body lift can remove unwanted and unnecessary skin from the abdomen, thighs, neck, under the arms, or anywhere else where large amounts of fat have been eliminated. In addition to its aesthetic benefits, post-bariatric surgery can also be advantageous to patients’ overall health. Loose folds can harm the skin by trapping moisture and bacteria, resulting in rashes or infections.

At the Aesthetic Surgery Center, the best time to schedule post-bariatric surgery is after the most dramatic weight loss has occurred and your weight begins to stabilize. Contact our board certified surgeon in Baton Rouge to learn more about the potential benefits of post-bariatric body sculpting surgery. All candidates for the surgery are carefully screened to ensure that they are in a position to receive the maximum benefits from this procedure.

Brachioplasty i.e. Arm Lift

Brachioplasty, i.e. Arm Lift, is a surgical procedure tht reduces the excess hanging skin, reduces localized pockets of adiposity in the upper arm region, tightens and smooths the underlying supportive tissue that defines the shape of the upper arm, and provides a more toned and proportionate appearance to the arms. Incisions are generally placed on the inside of the arm or on the back of the arm, depending on the surgeon's preference, and may extend from the underarm (axilla) to just above the elbow. The length and pattern of the incision depends on the amount and location of the excess skin to be excised, and will be judged and determined by your plastic surgeon. Adiposity will be excised or treated with Liposuction (PAL-Pulsed Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction).

Surgical body contouring following major weight loss improves the shape and tone of the underlying tissue that supports fat and skin, and removes the excess sagging fat and skin. The result is a more normal appearance to the body, with smoother contours. This is, in essence, the final phase of your total weight loss experience.

However, before your decide to undergo body contouring following major weight loss, it is important to understand that your weight loss must have stabilized. If you continue to lose weight, sagging pockets will redevelop. If you rapidly regain the weight you have lost, you will dramatically stress the already weakened and thinned skin, causing further stress to the skin, visible stress markes and wide scars.

In general, candidates for any type of body contouring surgery should meet most of the following criteria:

Face Procedures

Facelift

Facelift is one of the most effective and sought after time-altering cosmetic procedures. The procedure can simultaneously eliminate wrinkles on the face and neck and reduce signs of aging due to sun exposure, gravity, time, stress, and other factors. The newer procedures include tightening the deeper structures of the face and then redraping and removing excess skin to give a more natural and lasting result. Due to the highly personal nature of the procedure, Dr. Williams will take the time needed to fully understand his patient's vision for change.

Chin Augmentation

Though the chin is often an overlooked and underestimated facial feature, in reality, it plays a vital role in facial contour. A weak chin can make the nose appear larger, while a strong chin can make the nose appear smaller. The jawline is literally the foundation of one’s face, and chin augmentation can bring your facial features into harmony and balance with one another.

Chin augmentation begins with an incision in one of two places, either underneath the chin or inside the mouth. Incisions made in the mouth generally have several advantages; most notably, there is no scarring and the healing time is faster. The implant is then positioned over the tip of the chin bone, and the incision is sutured and closed.

Chin augmentation can be performed in conjunction with a number of other facial procedures including facelift, rhinoplasty, or facial liposuction to achieve greater symmetry of the face.

Ear Surgery

For anyone who is self-conscious about the appearance of their ears, ear surgery (also called otoplasty) can quickly, safely, and effectively alter the size and shape of the ears.

This procedure is most often performed on patients in their youth, between the ages of five and fourteen; however, it can be successfully performed on adults as well. Otoplasty usually takes between two and three hours to complete.

Ear surgery begins when Dr. Williams makes an incision behind the ear. From there, he will sculpt the cartilage and remove the excess. After the ears are moved closer to the head, non-removable stitches may be used to hold them in their new position.

Necklift

Necklift is often performed in combination with facelift to tighten and remove loose, sagging skin around the neck. The underlying muscles can also be tightened, and liposuction can further enhance the contour of the neckline.

Obagi Blue Peel

Chemical peels are a fast, safe, and effective way to enhance your appearance by smoothing uneven, blotchy skin tones and reducing fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, and otherwise blemished areas of skin. Chemical peels stimulate the skin’s natural cell production through the application of topical acids that result in a controlled and even shedding of the top layers of skin. Depending on the type and depth of the peel, a few or multiple layers of skin can be removed, allowing fresher, younger cells to reach the surface.

There are three degrees of chemical peels available:

Eyelid Surgery

The area around the eyes is one of the first regions of the body to show signs of aging. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is an effective means of reducing sagging in the upper eyelids, crows' feet along the edges of the eyes, dark circles under the eyes, and the puffy bags that often form below the lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can erase years of aging.

Eyelid surgery begins with an incision along the natural lines of the eyelids: in the creases of the upper lids, just below the lashes in the lower lids or within the inside of the lower eyelid. Working through these incisions, Dr. Williams separates the skin from the underlying fatty tissue and muscle, while removing excess fat and trimming away sagging skin and muscle. The incisions are closed with very fine sutures.

If you have a pocket of fat beneath your lower eyelids but don't require the removal of skin, Dr. Williams may opt to perform a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. In this procedure, the incision is made inside your lower eyelids, leaving no visible scar.

Rhinoplasty

The nose is the focal point of the face and the feature that is most likely to enhance or diminish your surrounding facial features. Rhinoplasty can either enlarge or reduce the dimensions of the nose, and it can adjust the shape of the bridge, the tip, or the size of the nostrils. The procedure can also correct a crooked nose or breathing abnormalities that can result from internal structural problems in the nostrils. Through rhinoplasty, many patients achieve improved facial harmony and a greater sense of confidence in their appearance.

The rhinoplasty procedure begins with incisions inside the rim of the nostrils. The incisions are placed so that scars will be well-hidden after surgery. If the nose is being reduced in size, the bone will be carefully shaved to the desired size. For the removal of bumps or crooks, the bridge will be lowered create a smooth, sleek nose line. Large round or bulbous tips can also be refined with slight recontouring of the cartilage.

When the surgery is complete, a splint will be applied to protect and maintain the new shape of the nose. Nasal packs or soft plastic splints may also be placed in the nostrils to stabilize the septum. Rhinoplasty usually takes an hour or two, but more complex procedures may require additional time.

Lifestyle Lift

As we age, the skin  and underlying supporting tissue of our face begins to lose elasticity. When that happens, we develop wrinkles, laugh lines, sagging skin, hanging jowls and other unsightly results from having too much loose skin. The Lifestyle Lift works by re-tightening both skin and  the underlying supporting tissue.

The result is a significant reduction of wrinkles, a better defined jaw line, and less loose skin across the entire face. When skin is flat and smooth from the Lifestyle Lift, the years simply fade away!

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein effective in temporarily reducing or eliminating wrinkles. The protein works by relaxing the muscles that contract and release throughout the day. When these muscles are relaxed, the wrinkles they create disappear. The results of this treatment typically last from three to five months; however, after follow-up BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments, the period of effectiveness can increase to eight months or more.

The procedure is fast and relatively painless. BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into the muscle through a micro needle, and most patients report only slight discomfort lasting a few seconds. The entire procedure takes around 15 minutes, and patients should be able to resume their daily activities immediately afterwards.
