Chemical peels are a fast, safe, and effective way to enhance your appearance by smoothing uneven, blotchy skin tones and reducing fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, and otherwise blemished areas of skin. Chemical peels stimulate the skin's natural cell production through the application of topical acids that result in a controlled and even shedding of the top layers of skin. Depending on the type and depth of the peel, a few or multiple layers of skin can be removed, allowing fresher, younger cells to reach the surface.

There are three degrees of chemical peels available:

• Superficial peels are the mildest of the three and are designed to smooth and refine rough, dry skin. Recovery is generally quick, with little or no downtime.
• Medium peels contain a higher concentration of acid than the superficial peels and are most effective on fair skin types. Medium peels are designed to target the epidermis and upper dermis layers, causing the skin to peel and flake in five to seven days. Immediately following treatment, the skin will be red and may swell slightly.
• Deep peels produce the most dramatic, most long term results. This type of peel is designed to target the dermis, the deeper of the two main layers of skin, and is recommended for treating wrinkles, scars, blemishes, and in some instances, pre-cancerous skin lesions. In rare cases, anesthesia is used during the application to eliminate discomfort. Following a deep peel, the skin will be red and may swell and blister. The skin will peel over a two-week period, revealing younger, radiant skin.
